Dive 263: Happiness Is …

Dear Critters,

After getting rotten news about my health last week, it seemed more than appropriate to cross ‘Introduce My Baby Brother to Scuba’ off my Bucket List today, before I begin palliative treatment on Tuesday. My best buddy LP put a lot of work into helping make this happen, and I cannot thank him enough for his super-star effort. Here’s a picture of LP, Nathan and me right before our amazing dive under that pier …

LP, Nathan and PT in front of Flinders Pier

To make the event even more special, my beloved dad Kirby and gorgeous step-mum Nancy decided to show up at Flinders Pier to surprise my brother for his first dive and to take some topside pictures for us. Just as Nathan uttered the words ‘I wonder what dad is thinking about all this right now?’, Kirby and Nancy appeared unexpectedly right before his eyes, as excited and proud as any parents could ever be.

What a perfect day to dive Flinders! Weedy sea dragons everywhere, a massive school of trevally, a Port Jackson shark, Shaw’s cowfish and so much more to see. Other divers reported seeing the resident draftboard shark and a huge cuttlefish out at the wreck. My little brother did a fantastic job at his first ever dive and came out of the water with a massive smile on his dial.

It has always been my greatest passion to share my blissful underwater world with others – to show them all the beauty I am so blessed to experience every time the ocean calls my name. I have been incredibly privileged to dive with LP most weekends over the past two and a half years, and our dives are always simply amazing, rejuvenating my tired body and washing all troubles away from my mind.

But this dive was truly one for the record books. I am always happiest when I am underwater, but today, sharing this incredible underwater world with my little brother for the very first time was the pure definition of happiness. Welcome to my world, Babe – you TOTALLY rocked your Dive 1!

Love, bubbles and a good measure of bliss,
PT xxx

  1. Well I just watched the video and all I can say is that it was really magical, fitting the music perfectly, and that is a brilliant way to give Nathan memories that will last a lifetime.
PS. I want those fish next time, they were amazing.

    • Tank you for your kind words and for playing such a huge part in making this dream experience come true for Nathan. He phoned today and asked me to tell you a million thank yous and that he thinks you are totally awesome πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ So sorry I hogged all the pretty fishies while you babysat my cute little brother at the ladder 😦 They would have looked totally mazing on your 3D camera πŸ™‚

      • Nooooo. Not hogging. I just want them to come back next time. πŸ˜› I have his shells too. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

      • I think he was so blissed out, he probably didn’t realise his shells didn’t quite make it home πŸ˜›

      • Mark, thank you for helping make this a reality. What an amazing day and yes, many thanks for looking after me and making me feel completely safe. You are truly a great guy and true friend to me and P.T will never forget this moment.

    • Tank you so much, riverwriter2014. The sea dragons are such gentle little sweethearts – it’s so amazing to see them in groups at this time of year! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  2. These videos of your dives are beautiful and very relaxing to watch. Hope the treatment goes well and look forward to your next video.

    • Tank you so much, Mike. I’m so glad you find the videos relaxing, as I do making them πŸ™‚ I did my first session of treatment this morning and it was much less stressful than anticipated. I would love to make videos of sea lions, great white sharks and manta rays next – fingers crossed! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

    • Tank you so much, Harley! I am so honoured that you would help me to share my dive stories. Tank you as always for your kind words, encouragement and prayers. You are truly a blessing! Love and bubbles, PT xxx

    • Tank you so much for your kind words, Queenelizabeth. I am so inspired by all that I experience, and it is a genuine privilege if sharing some of that helps to inspire others. Blessings, love and bubbles, PT xxx

  3. That was truly magical! Thank you for sharing it with us! We will keep you in our prayers for peace and comfort. The wonderful memories that you’ve made have can never be taken from you. What an awesome thing to have done. You are a very brave woman and to take your brother on his first dive when you had gotten bad news from your doctors shows your tenacity and your will to fight and your caring heart. God bless you and your family and you got through this battle, whatever it is. Jesus said, My peace I give to you, My peace I leave with you. May you find that peace and rest in it knowing that He is with you throughout all your adventures!

    • Dear nanarhonda, I am so encouraged by your words. Tank you for taking the time to share this experience with us. I truly believe that keeping a positive attitude is essential, no matter what we are facing and no matter how hard it can sometimes feel to smile through it all. Tank you also for that beautiful Scripture. I prayed through every moment of my treatment this morning and was filled with peace that passed my own understanding. God bless you for taking the time to share your thoughts and your heart which uplifted mine. Love and bubbles, PT xxx

      • I just finally got to your email as I have a blog and get a LOT of email and it just keeps stacking up. I apologize for my late reply.

I must tell you that I am writing this through tears so you’ll have to forgive the typos! To God be the glory as you were filled with the peace that passed your own understanding! Remember also, that same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead dwells within you! The Holy Spirit was the gift Jesus sent us when He ascended to His place next to the Father. The Holy Spirit has many duties, but for the believer, He is the Comforter, and the same power that raised Jesus from the dead now dwells within us! What an almost incomprehensible truth to take in! May you be able to feel His presence from the inside out, feel His Comfort, feel His power, and that peace that passes all understanding, as you so eloquently said.

I have never had the courage to scuba dive. And now that I’m disabled, I couldn’t anyway, as I would suck my tank dry to quickly as I don’t breathe well. But I so admire your tenacity and I, in a sense, live vicariously through your bravery and your posts. I hope that you find that as the compliment it is meant to be. πŸ™‚

I love how you say tank you and love and bubbles! Much love and bubble and blessings, PT!

  4. Watching the video reminds me of when we were in Fiji and you helped me as I was just in the learning process of experiencing how t maintain buoyancy.

    • Jerry, you are such a precious person. It was such a tremendous privilege to meet and dive with you in Fiji. A few months ago, I almost suggested that you come to dive piers in Australia with me in December 2014, but I wasn’t sure how I would be by the end of the year. It’s so difficult to make plans with my health being what it is, but I will always remember some amazing dives with you and wish us both a lifetime of amazing diving ahead. Love and bubbles, PT xxx

  5. There is a thought that time spent underwater does not count against our allocated time on earth. Whether true or not, it sure feels that way when down there. Your videos are the finest work and matched beautifully with your music choices. It is good to see you are getting another person hooked on the feeling and experience.

Best wishes and peace to you and to more dives with your brother.

    • Joe, that is the most amazing thought – perhaps I should find a way to spend the rest of my time underwater! πŸ˜› You are totally right – underwater time stands still and I am literally incapable of having any thought which does not completely revolve around being underwater. I am really encouraged by your kind work about my videos – thank you so much for your inspiring feedback. I felt so privileged to take my brother for his first dive and I also wish him many more amazing underwater adventures. Every blessing, PT πŸ™‚

    • Joe – I have quoted this saying from you again and again whenever I have had an opportunity to share it with anyone, but I had honestly forgotten who first told it to me. I am so glad it was you! It has given me so much strength, perspective and hope over the past 2 years. Thank you so much my friend for imparting this blissful wisdom into my life! Love and bubbles always, PT xxx

    • Tank you lovely Loca Gringa for your kind words and thoughts. Treatment session 1 this morning was less stressful than anticipated, although apparently it can become a bit more difficult as you progress through the sessions. It is so nice to have one less item in my Bucket List – now I just need to find some way to cross Great White sharks and manta rays off my list, and I will truly be the happiest girl on earth πŸ™‚ Love and bubbles, PT xxx

    • Tank you so much, zebrakat πŸ™‚ After my first radiation Quad Shot, I feel not too terrible, tank you πŸ™‚ Planning to dive with sea lions today – fingers crossed! Have a great weekend, sweetheart. Love and bubbles, PT xxx

  6. Awesome!!! A choreographed underwater ballet! What a world! Thank you PT for sharing your world even as you face some serious challenges. Your selfless nature is to be commended. As I watched this time I was spellbound, but almost felt a sense of sadness. It almost brought me to tears.
May i share something with you? There is a new discovery in nutritional support, it’s called Smart Mix Moringa Oleifera. It provides energy and is also good for pain, and helping to cope with chemo, etc. I take it and it does wonders for me as well as countless others. From ovarian cancer to Endometrial cancer and all cancers in between. I take it daily, but some that are more suffering with more serious conditions can take it 2-3 times a day.
It’s my goal to help every person that I can possibly reach, receive these benefits. Zija’s Moringa is superior to most. Check out Moringa Oleifera @ PubMed.gov.
The joy you bring is something i would love to see continue for a lo-n-n-g time.
I hope I am not out of line or offending you in any way. I’m sharing because I really, really care for you and what you do. You bring a certain happiness I can’t explain. And I would be remiss if I know of something that could give you back your health, so you can continue and feel good; and I didn’t share it with you. Happy diving my friend, you bring me joy!!!

  7. Reblogged this on My Soapbox and commented:
Such a wonderfully brave lady! If you are of the mind to pray, please include her in your prayers. I don’t know her condition, but she says she got bad news. God knows though. That’s all that matters. The videos, are so peaceful and bring her so much joy! So here is a GOOD post folks!

  8. Hi there – thanks for visiting my blog and thank you also for giving me the moment of observing those Weedy Sea Dragons. It’s made my day so far! I loved watching your brothers first dive as it shows the buoyancy issues I know so well! πŸ™‚

    • Tank you so much for visiting, janstring πŸ™‚ Buoyancy always takes lots of time and practice to sort out πŸ™‚ Happy Diving! Love and bubbles, PT xxx
